Our Welcome to Newcomers
Who are we?
The church is made up of a wide range of different people from all ages and backgrounds. Young or old, church member or casual visitor, those who are searching for truth and those who are simply curious, are all welcome to come along. Whoever you are, you are assured of a warm welcome at St. Peter’s. Around 70 adults and 15 children and teenagers come to our main 10am worship each Sunday, so it doesn’t take long to feel at home.
What do we stand for?
Our worship is centred on God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. At the heart of our Church is our desire to learn more about Jesus and how we can follow Him. We believe that He is uniquely the Son of God who died and rose again for us. Sermons are based on the Bible, seeking to understand it and applying it to our lives. We are amazed by God’s love for us. We know that we haven’t arrived but want to pass on what we have received. We are committed to sharing God’s love in word and deed. The development of our new community room, kitchen and disabled access toilet within our church building marks an exciting opportunity for us to reach out to the community in fresh ways. We would be thrilled if you joined us.
When to arrive:
Our worship starts at 10.00 a.m. every Sunday. If you are arriving by car you will find the best parking is on Station Road where there is a car park. For disabled users there is parking in the passageway next to the church. This is reached from Midland Road. For directions see the Find Us page. You will be greeted at the door by a member of our welcome team who will give you details of the service and notices of forthcoming events. Our premises are accessible to those with disabilities and there is a toilet accessible to wheelchair users which includes baby changing facilities. If you arrive at the church in a wheelchair help will be at hand. We have a hearing loop for the hearing impaired- please turn your hearing aid to the ‘T’ position. The hymns and service booklet are available in large print versions.
What to wear:
That is easy. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in. We are an informal church and accept people as they are. There is no need to dress up.
What to expect:
For some of us, arriving somewhere for the first time can be a nerve-racking experience. To help avoid any worries here is a quick summary of what you can expect at a St. Peter’s Service. If you do not understand anything please ask – we are a friendly bunch. Our services last about an hour and include a mixture of contemporary and traditional hymns. Every other week we have a communion service. If you are not confirmed you can come to the front to receive a blessing at communion time or simply remain in your seat. We have a new community room with toys, where children under three can be taken if they become restless. However, don’t worry about them making a noise, we are used to it. On most Sundays there are groups in our Church Hall for children and young people. We try to include older children in the service. After the service you are invited to stay for a cup of tea or coffee, soft drinks and biscuits.
Church isn’t just for Sundays
Important though it is, there is far more to St. Peter’s than our Sunday worship. On this website you will find details about our young people’s group, home groups, spiritual growth groups, ladies friendship group, Missionary link, social activities and special events which are coming up.
